Gardens with purpose are essential sanctuaries

Gardens have historically served as essential sanctuaries and necessities during periods of anxiety and disruption, offering comfort when the world feels unpredictable. The act of gardening provides a sense of purpose and hope, often summarised as ”planting a seed is to believe in tomorrow”. Every year, I plant thousands of plants in the gardens that I create, as a forward-looking, hopeful action, to create places for people and wildlife to rest and to renew.

With Nordic gardens still in dormancy, I prepare for 2026 as a year to bring more joy and beauty to gardens of the Nordics, working on numerous gardens, where the surrounding landscape is a guide towards true expressions. I believe that raw materials are not just part of a creation, but something much bigger. How we feel about each material and each garden can lead to deeper personal freedom. It will determine the feeling of belonging in the space, where memories become special and genuine.

I continue to create purposeful gardens with the belief that gardens are places that provide essential sanity, when the outside world feels chaotic.
