Designed for a couple with appreciation of genuine, living materials, this garden embraces both the native landscape and the granite bedrock.
Outdoor spaces mainly engage on the south facing ocean side, with the compliment of a smaller seating area on this east facing protected side of the hill.
On this amazing site close to a nature reserve, indigenous oak trees and cypress shrubs complement the house by their sculptural appearance. The plant palette is limited, with green shrubs, ferns and perennials to connect to native plants and local habitats surrounding the property.
The purpose with this garden was to make it more user friendly, and in keeping with the woodland. Low retaining walls crafted by hand move seamlessly and engage with the landscape, visually appealing in an artful yet timeless composition.
This steep sloping site has been treated with respect, to follow the rhythm of the natural landscape. This garden is a success with careful planning and execution to its advantage, with a distinct area for cars, and to give priority to green rooms, and a garden with grace.
