This project sits at a south facing peninsula of an inlet of the Baltic Sea overlooking the beauty of the Stockholm archipelago and the many boats passing by. In this large garden unfolds three main garden spaces.
The beach garden is a chilled hangout, where to relax in a hammock under a pergola or gather around a fire pit in summer evenings. Wooden paths stretch across the beach, embedded in coastal planting, softening and embracing the space. Large boulders are placed in a wave-like sinuous pattern, mimicking the movement in the water. This sloping garden is situated on a hillside, where an infinity pool stretches out towards the sea, with dramatic ocean views, communicating with the landscape beyond. This part of the garden is a calm retreat. It serves as a humble space, connected to the house with a slate floor that flows indoors and continues outdoors, where the family can enjoy time spent cooking or in conversation around the pool. The front garden is comfortably sheltered, and lends itself to qualities of a welcoming place, with planting including ornamental grasses, and stone seating walls echoing the natural materials and patterns of ocean front.
