At the very northern end of Lake Mälaren sits this historic home on the top of a hill with a large sloping garden with views over the bay. Majestic old beech trees surround the garden are left as park land, in keeping with the historic wings.
With the ambition to be self-sufficient, series of outdoor rooms where created to grow crops, including several green houses and a root cellar for storage. In line with sustainable living, a rigorous water collecting system was installed.
In this garden, designed with grace and tradition, several welcoming seating areas tells their own story; An old granite mill-wheel was found in the garden, which makes a perfect table in the forest, embedded in a carpet of Anemones in spring. A Syringa hedge, planted in a a semi-circle, a traditional Swedish “Syrenberså”, is a lovely shady spot, with a gentle scent in early summer. Casual wood logs are used for benches around a fire place next to the lighthouse, with borrowed views of sailing boats and the evening sun set by the harbour.
A fountain framed by roses and a circular granite driveway makes a welcoming focal point by the entrance. A large terrace stretches along the house, making the south facing elevation ideal for a pool, to spend time, dine and entertain, using the proximity of the sloping garden below for a beautiful view across the green and lush garden.
